Manifesto: The Doctrine of the Rusty Scalpel

"If you can't get through 1,500 words about your own physiology, where exactly do you expect to find the mental strength to hold ten hours on a bike?"

1. THE ENEMY: THE SNACKABLE ERA

Look around. Endurance sport has turned into a daycare for adults.

They sell you snackable content because your attention span is shorter than a goldfish on amphetamines. They feed you toxic positivity, that modern disease that tells you how great you are while your FTP has not moved since 2019 and you are metabolically obese.

The enemy is Jasper.

Jasper buys a €14,000 S-Works to average 26 km/h. Jasper buys the perfect consumer's uniform before he has the legs. MAAP, PNS, the full club kit that goes very fast on social media. Jasper is hunting for the ultimate hack, the magic pill, the miracle gel. He wants the aesthetics of performance without the ethics of suffering. He wants to be told that l'important, c'est de participer, that taking part is what counts.

Nobody takes part here. We build.

If you came for fifteen-second clips with techno over the top to get you motivated, close this tab. Go back to scrolling. Let the adults work.

2. THE WEAPON: THE RUSTY SCALPEL

This blog is not a lifestyle magazine. It is a field operating theatre.

Our tool is the Rusty Scalpel.

Why rusty? Because the truth is not sterile. It is not polished, vacuum-sealed or signed off by a marketing department. The truth is dirty. It is rough. It gives the ego tetanus.

  • It cuts: straight through the fat of excuses, myths and bro-science.
  • It hurts: working out that you have trained badly for five years is painful.
  • It scars: that is the point. A scar is a memory. It reminds you never to be mediocre again.
  • It saves: once the infection of complacency is cut out, real performance can finally close over and harden.

3. THE METHOD

We stand on three pillars that do not bend.

A. Arid Science

Physiology does not negotiate. Your mitochondria do not care how you feel. Lactate has no opinion on the brand of your socks. We go down into biochemistry, fluid mechanics and raw data. It is dense, it is complex, it is arid. If you want to understand how your engine works, you open the hood and you get grease on your hands.

B. Combat Stoicism

Pain is not an emotion. It is information. When your legs burn, that is not sadness, it is an accumulation of hydrogen ions. We learn to look suffering in the eye without blinking. We are not trying to dodge it. We are learning to live inside it.

C. Trench Humour

We do not take ourselves seriously, but we take the work seriously. Black humour is the lubricant of performance. We laugh because it hurts. We take the piss out of ourselves, our blow-ups, our rides in freezing rain. It is the laughter of people who know the voiture-balai is not coming for them, and that nobody else is either.

4. THE CONTRACT

This is a blood pact between you and what you are about to read.

What I promise you:

  • → The truth, even when it is ugly.
  • → No product placement in disguise.
  • → Obsessive technical depth.
  • → A flat refusal to tell you what you want to hear.

What I expect from you:

  • Obsession. If you are here to kill time, you are in the wrong place.
  • Rigour. Apply. Test. Measure. Fail. Start again.
  • Silence. Do not complain. Results make enough noise on their own.

If you are ready to accept that you know nothing, that you are weak, and that all of it is still to be built...

Bienvenue dans la tranchée.

Welcome to the trench.
